MrCool's Pro-Grade Ductless System
MrCool is known for their DIY mini splits, but their Advantage Series is purpose-built for professional HVAC contractors. While the DIY line uses pre-charged Quick Connect fittings, the Advantage uses standard flare connections that professional technicians work with every day.
If you're a contractor who wants MrCool's quality and pricing without the DIY-oriented features, the Advantage is your system.
Key Differences: Advantage vs DIY
| Feature | Advantage Series | DIY 5th Gen |
|---|---|---|
| Line Connections | Standard flare | Quick Connect (pre-charged) |
| Refrigerant | R-454B (field charge) | R-454B (factory pre-charge) |
| Line Set Lengths | Custom cut on site | 25 ft pre-charged |
| Air Handler Options | Wall, ceiling, ducted, floor | Wall mount only |
| Installation | Licensed HVAC tech required | Homeowner DIY |
| Vacuum/Charge | Required (standard HVAC tools) | Not required |
| Sizes | 9K - 48K BTU | 9K - 36K BTU |
The Advantage gives contractors more flexibility: custom line set lengths, multiple air handler styles, and the ability to use their existing HVAC tools and techniques.
Air Handler Options
This is where the Advantage really separates from the DIY line. Instead of wall-mount only, you get:
Wall-Mount
The classic mini split look. Slim, high-mounted, with motorized louvers for targeted airflow. Best for bedrooms, living rooms, and offices where the unit can sit high on a wall without obstruction.
Ceiling Cassette
Flush-mounted in the ceiling for a near-invisible installation. The only visible component is the grille. Ideal for:
- Commercial spaces and offices
- Kitchens and dining rooms where wall space is premium
- High-end residential where aesthetics matter
- Rooms with limited wall space
Ducted (Concealed)
A slim air handler that installs above the ceiling or in a closet, distributing air through short duct runs to multiple vents. This gives you the efficiency of ductless with the look of traditional ducted HVAC. Perfect for:
- Renovations where the homeowner wants vents, not wall units
- Multi-room coverage from a single air handler
- Maintaining consistent aesthetics in traditional homes
Floor-Mount
Sits at floor level against a wall, similar to a baseboard heater profile. Good for:
- Rooms with large windows where wall mounting isn't practical
- Attic rooms with sloped ceilings
- Elderly or mobility-impaired occupants who need accessible controls

Multi-Zone Advantage
Multi-zone condensers are available in 18K, 27K, 36K, and 48K capacities, supporting 2 to 5 indoor air handlers. Each indoor unit has independent temperature control and can be a different air handler style (mix wall-mount and ceiling cassette on the same condenser, for example).
Installation Process
For licensed HVAC technicians, Advantage installation follows standard ductless procedures:
- Mount indoor and outdoor units
- Run refrigerant lines (custom cut to length on site)
- Make flare connections at both indoor and outdoor units
- Run communication wire and drain line
- Pressure test the system
- Evacuate with a vacuum pump to 500 microns or below
- Release refrigerant from the outdoor unit's service valves
- Commission and test all modes
Experienced two-person crews complete single-zone Advantage installations in 4-6 hours. Multi-zone systems take 1-2 days depending on the number of indoor units and line set routing complexity.
Why Contractors Choose Advantage Over Competing Brands
Price Point
MrCool Advantage systems cost 20-30% less than equivalent Mitsubishi, Daikin, or Fujitsu units at the contractor level. Same inverter technology, same R-454B refrigerant, same efficiency ratings — at a lower acquisition cost that improves your margin or lets you bid more competitively.
Warranty Support
MrCool provides a strong manufacturer warranty: 7-year compressor, 5-year parts. Warranty claims go through MrCool directly with straightforward processes that don't require jumping through distribution hoops.
Growing Brand Recognition
Homeowners increasingly know the MrCool name thanks to the DIY line's popularity. When you tell a customer you're installing a MrCool system, they've often already heard of the brand and have positive associations. That's a sales advantage over lesser-known brands.
