Ductless Air Conditioners.
No Ductwork. No Problem.

A ductless air conditioner — also called a mini split — cools and heats any space without the ductwork central air requires. Perfect for older homes with no existing ducts, additions and conversions, garages, ADUs, sunrooms, finished basements, or any room that runs hot/cold compared to the rest of your house. Each system pairs a slim outdoor condenser with one or more indoor wall-mounted (or ceiling-cassette) heads. Below are our in-stock ductless systems.

Buying Guide

Why ductless air conditioners win

Ductless ACs deliver central-air comfort without the ductwork — and in most climates they outperform central air on efficiency, cost, and zone control. Here is what to know before buying.

Best fit: homes without existing ductwork

Older homes (pre-1960s) often lack ductwork. Retrofitting central air requires tearing into walls and ceilings — typical cost $10,000-$25,000. Ductless ACs install in a single afternoon and require only a 3-inch hole through one exterior wall. For homes without ducts, ductless is almost always the right answer.

Solve hot/cold rooms in homes that DO have ductwork

Got a bonus room over the garage that runs 10°F warmer in summer? A second-floor bedroom that never gets cool? A finished basement that fights the central system? Adding a single ductless head solves the problem without touching your existing HVAC. Cheaper and faster than rebalancing or extending ductwork.

Per-room temperature control = lower bills

Central air heats and cools the whole house to one temperature, even rooms nobody is using. A ductless system with multiple zones lets you cool only the rooms you occupy. Real-world energy savings: 25-40% lower cooling bills compared to central AC of equivalent BTU.

Heating + cooling in one system

Modern ductless ACs are heat pumps — they cool in summer AND heat in winter using the same equipment. Hyper Heat models work down to -22°F. This eliminates the need for a separate furnace in mild climates, and reduces gas/oil dependency in cold climates.

Single-zone vs multi-zone vs whole-home

Single-zone: one outdoor + one indoor unit, $700-$2,500. Best for adding cooling/heating to one room. Multi-zone: one outdoor + 2-5 indoor units, $2,500-$5,500. Best for whole-floor or whole-house coverage with per-room control. Whole-home ducted heat pump (with traditional ductwork): $4,000-$9,000. Best for replacing existing central air.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

Is a ductless air conditioner the same as a mini split?+

Yes — "ductless air conditioner" and "mini split" describe the same product from different angles. Mini split refers to the form factor (split between an outdoor unit and indoor unit, with no ductwork between them). Ductless air conditioner emphasizes that no ductwork is required. Both terms describe the same system.

How much does a ductless air conditioner cost installed?+

A single-zone ductless AC ranges from $700 (DIY) to $4,500 (premium pro install). A whole-house multi-zone system ranges from $3,500 (DIY) to $12,000 (pro install). DIY pre-charged systems save the $1,500-$3,500 in installation labor. Federal 25C tax credits and state rebates can offset $500-$8,000 of the cost.

Will a ductless AC cool my whole house?+

Yes, with a multi-zone system. One outdoor condenser can support 2-5 indoor heads, each in a different room. Sized correctly (20-25 BTU per sq ft), a multi-zone ductless AC cools an entire house with better efficiency and per-room control than central air. For very large homes (3,500+ sq ft), multiple outdoor condensers may be needed.

Can I install a ductless AC myself?+

Yes — MrCool DIY and EasyPro models are designed for homeowner installation. They ship with pre-charged Quick Connect line sets, so no refrigerant handling or HVAC license is needed. You will need to add a dedicated electrical circuit and disconnect box, which most homeowners hire an electrician for ($200-$500).

Does a ductless AC heat as well as cool?+

Yes — modern ductless ACs are heat pumps. They cool in summer and heat in winter using the same equipment. Standard models work down to about 5°F. For colder climates, Hyper Heat models work down to -22°F and qualify for federal/state rebates.

Are ductless ACs noisy?+

No — ductless ACs are among the quietest cooling systems on the market. The indoor unit runs at 25-45 dB (quieter than a whisper at 30 dB). The outdoor unit runs at 50-65 dB depending on size. Compare to a window AC at 50-60 dB indoors and a portable AC at 50-65 dB indoors.
