48K MRCOOL® Hyper Heat Central Ducted Air Handler — Model Details
What this specific model is sized for, how it installs, how it performs, and what it costs to run.
Room & Space Coverage — 47,000 BTU
The 48K MRCOOL® Hyper Heat Central Ducted Air Handler delivers 47,000 BTU of cooling and heating capacity, sized for spaces up to 2,000 sq ft in standard 8-ft ceiling rooms with average insulation. At this capacity the unit is typically used for open-plan main floors, large garages, pole barns, finished basements, and small commercial bays. For homes with vaulted ceilings, heavy sun exposure, or poor insulation, plan on ~20% more BTU per square foot than the nominal coverage.
Power & Electrical Requirements
Power requirement: 208-230V 1-phase 60Hz (standard US residential 240V service). Minimum circuit ampacity is 7.5A with a maximum overcurrent protection of 15A. Wire the outdoor unit with 14 AWG copper on a dedicated 15A double-pole breaker (or single-pole at 120V), with a disconnect within sight of the condenser per NEC 440.14.
Install Difficulty — Professional Install
This is a professionally-installed condenser that requires a licensed HVAC technician with EPA 608 certification. The tech will pull a vacuum on the line set to 500 microns, pressure-test with nitrogen, release the factory charge, and commission per MrCool's startup procedure. Budget 1 full day for install on a single-zone system. The system supports line set lengths up to 213.25ft; longer runs are available as accessory kits. Plan the shortest practical route — every 10ft of line set adds roughly 2% capacity loss. Ships with R-410A refrigerant. R-410A is a mature, widely-serviced refrigerant; service technicians and parts are available at any HVAC supply house.
Sound Level & Comfort Features
Operating sound level ranges from 43.5 dB(A) on low to 50 dB(A) on high — comparable to typical residential mini-split output. The indoor blower offers 4 fan speeds plus auto mode, letting you trade airflow for quiet operation in bedrooms while running louder in living areas.
