At this capacity the unit is ideal for bedrooms, home offices, sunrooms, and single-room additions up to the stated square footage. Power & Electrical Requirements
Power requirement: 208-230V 1-phase 60Hz (standard US residential 240V service). Minimum circuit ampacity is 3A with a maximum overcurrent protection of 15A. Wire the outdoor unit with 14 AWG copper on a dedicated 15A double-pole breaker (or single-pole at 120V), with a disconnect within sight of the condenser per NEC 440.14.
Install Difficulty — DIY-Friendly
This DIY 4th Gen Wall Mount Air Handler system ships with a pre-charged Quick Connect line set — no HVAC license, no vacuum pump, no refrigerant gauges. The pre-charged fittings use a hand-tightened mechanical seal that a homeowner completes in 15 minutes per connection. Typical install time from unboxing to first cool air is 4–8 hours for a single-head system. Ships with R-410A refrigerant. R-410A is a mature, widely-serviced refrigerant; service technicians and parts are available at any HVAC supply house.
Sound Level & Comfort Features
Operating sound level ranges from 25 dB(A) on low to 40 dB(A) on high — the low end is whisper-quiet, below a normal conversation (60 dB) and comparable to a library reading room. Quiet mode caps fan speed and compressor rpm for an extra 2–3 dB drop in sound output.

The MRCOOL® 4th Generation DIY 12K BTU Ductless Wall Mounted Air Handler is an essential component of a MRCOOL® DIY system. When paired with a MrCool Condenser, it is capable of achieving a 22 SEER efficiency rating and has the ability to heat and cool an area of up to 500 sq ft. It features multiple modes of operation such as COOL, HEAT, AUTO, DRY (dehumidify), and SLEEP so it is sure to suit your needs. It can also be conveniently operated from anywhere using your Apple or Android smartphone with the Smart HVAC app. This air handler can be easily mounted with the included and easy-to-use wall mounting plate. It is also very compact, especially when compared to the components of a traditional ducted system, so it can be easily maneuvered into place. It was also designed to be used with MrCool’s patented Pre-Charged Quick Connect Line Set. So, installing the refrigerant piping is as simple as turning a few wrenches. Since the line set comes pre-charged with the precise amount of R-410A refrigerant, no vacuuming or charging is required once connected.
